In 1990, Donovan formed The Atomic Improv Co. and created North America’s first two-man improv show. The act soon became a crowd favorite playing to sell-out audiences across Canada and, in 1992 and 1993, was voted the number one comedy and variety act in the nation by the Canadian Organization of Campus Activities. Donovan’s two-man improve show also become the first non-musical act to be nominated as Entertainer of the Year. In 1994 Atomic Improv won the prestigious Just For Laughs Improv Festival, earning Donovan and his partner a spot on the main stage including a featured performance on the Just For Laughs television show.

In 1996 Atomic Improv won the World Improv Championships in Los Angeles competing against the likes of Brad Sherwood and Wayne Brady, both from ABC TV’s Whose Line Is It Anyway.

Donovan’s improv skills translated well into several acting roles including performances in the Disney movie The Last Train Home, two episodes of the Ray Bradbury Theatre series and working alongside Second City alumnus Dave Thomas in his feature film Intern Academy. Donovan has also been featured in numerous national print and television ad campaigns including Lottery 6/49, CIBC and Canada’s largest furniture retailer “The Brick.” Donovan has been recognized with numerous Alberta Motion Picture Awards for his performances through the years including the most recent 2006 Best Actor nomination for his role in the CTV Movie of the Week End of Innocence.

Additional television credits include writer and host of 13x half-hour series for the NHL Network called Fan Face-Off, head writer for Season Four of the award-winning documentary series Taking It Off for LIFE Network and starring as a main character in CBC TV’s animated series ICE. Recently, Donovan has also been a feature performer in The Irrelevant Show for CBC radio.

Donovan also produced, and is featured in, several “streeter” segments for CTV Edmonton. These include a summer long series called Graham’s Getaways and a year long feature called 100 years of Edmonton. Both series received Alberta Motion Picture Industry Awards. Currently Donovan is featured in a summer long series for CTV Edmonton called CTV’s Block Party.

Throughout his 20-year career in comedy, Donovan has had the honor of performing alongside such Canadian comedy greats as Joe Flaherty and Colin Mochrie and with the brilliant Mike Myers with whom he created a fundraising video for the Royal Alexandria Hospital Foundation. Donovan continues to sharpen his improv skills performing comedy shows nationally and internationally with The Atomic Improv Co.
