Born Crispin Hellion Glover to actor Bruce Glover and ballet dancer Betty Glover in New York City on April 24, 1964, Crispin began his acting career, at age 13, with the lead in a stage production of The Sound of Music. He went on to guest spots on TV shows such as Hill Street Blues, Family Ties and Happy Days. His feature film debut came in 1983 with a role in Tutor, which quickly led to a role in Friday the 13th: The Final Chapter. Best known for his starring role as George McFly in Back to the Future in 1985, Glover has gone on to act in many memorable roles in films like The Orkly Kid, River’s Edge, Wild at Heart, What’s Eating Gilbert Grape and starring as Andy Warhol in The Doors to name but a few. Recently Glover has added a number of popular big budget movie roles to his resume as he appeared in Nurse Betty, as the Thin Man in Charlie’s Angels: Full Throttle and as the voice for Grendel in Beowulf.
But there is much more to Crispin Glover than just being an actor. He released an LP in 1989, The Big Problem Does Not Equal the Solution. The Solution = Let it Be. He wrote his first book, Billow Rock, before he was 18 followed by Rat Catching and Oak Mot. His directorial debut in 1995, What is It starred an entire cast of victims of Down’s Syndrome and his one man touring performance art piece The Big Slide Show incorporated music from records and images from his book including 1992’s Concrete Inspection.
Glover, by the mid 90s, was comfortable choosing complex characters in his film roles and as Hollywood’s eccentric at large. Roles in Gus Van Sant’s Even Cowgirls Get The Blues and his memorable cameo in Jim Jarmusch’s Dead Man added to that mystique.
Glover had a number of commercial movies released in 2007 like Beowulf, The Wizard of Gore and The Epic Movie. It is Fine, Everything is Fine, the second film of his trilogy on the physically handicapped, is what keeps him constantly on the move as he supports the film with appearances at many independent film festivals around the world.
